To operate a heat lamp safely they need to be 60cm above anything flamable - that includes the animals you are heating. As these lamps are approx. 30 cm high that means you need a total minimum height of 90cm above the animal being heated to operate safely.
These heat lamps are supplied complete with a hanging chain and a screw in ceiling hook so you can quickly have the lamp up and running heating the animal below.
What height should the lamp be?
Once you've got the lamp suspended from the ceiling we recommend observing the animals behavoiur to establish if you have the light at the correct height. Ideally you shouldn't be heating the whole of the animals enclousre but provide heated and unheated areas. If you animal is keeping as far away from the heat as possible the heat lamp is too low - lift it up, use the dimmer switch to reduce the power or fit a smaller heat bulb. If your animal is spread out directly under the lamp it is too cold. Lower the lamp if possible, check the dimmer is on the higher setting or fit as large heat bulb. If you pet is settling anywhere between these two extremes then th eheight of the heat lamp is correct.
These heat lamps feature unique cooling fine to reduce the effect of the heat generated by teh bulb which will greatly extend the life of these heat lamps - Although our standard heat lamps are good quality they do eventually suffer from the bulbs welding themselves into the lamp holder which means that after extended use it may not be possible to remove a blown bulb.
When not in use these lamps can be packed away, 10 lamps need less than 60x30x30cm of storage space - about the same space as 3 of our standard lamps.
These heat lamps are supplied without bulbs but are compatable with all the heat lmap bulbs avaiable on our website.

Large Pro Heat Lamp with Dimmer Switch Excellent product. Housing two additional dogs for a few months and have had to house them in a stone built shed. Although the shed is insulated, it is nowhere near as warm as a house and I felt some additional heat source was required. The heat lamp has come up trumps - highly recommend. Good product This lamp looks good and installed easily. My electrician had to replace some of the screws attaching the hood to the fitting as the originals were flimsy. The 90cms leeway between the lamp and the animal means 90cms measured from the top of the fitting. (08/12/2012) -
