Poultry shield is one of the most effective treatments for red mite available on the market. Because it isn't an insecticide the mites haven't developed any immunity to it. It works simply by cleaning their outer waxy coating causing them to dehydrate and die. It is also a very effective cleaner for use throughout the chicken house and for cleaning feeders and drinkers.
To use as a cleaner, mix it at a ratio of 1 part in 20. Remove any loose material. Use a pressure spray and spray all surfaces then leave to soak. Next scrub or pressure wash surfaces and then rinse with clean water.
To eliminate Red Mites ensure the house is clean then mix a solution of Poultry Shield at a ratio of 1 part in 10. Soak all possible hiding places particularly any joins in the structure. Whilst treating for red mite there isn't any benefit in treating flat panels that offer no hiding places. There is no need to rinse the product away and the hens can return to the house as soon as any puddles have dried.
This routine will need to be repeated several times at 4-5 day intervals until there is no sign of the red mites. Then continue to use as a regular cleaner.
