10 kg Treadle Feeder.

The feed can only be accessed when the chicken is stood on the tread. This opens the feeder so the hen can reach the food. These are designed to be used outside and prove to be very effective. It may not be suitable for bantams.

Your birds may need some training to use their new feeder.
We suggest that you hold the treadle down with a weight for the first few days until the birds become accustomed to where they can find their food. After this they should be able to use the feeder without any problem.

This feeder requires some basic assembly.

Occasionaly, if the rat problem has existed for some time, the rats may be large enough to operate the treadle when several are stood on it at one time. We suggest that our treadle feeder is used with other methods of rat control to prevent this.

Great idea Most of our chickens are using this feeder well, but a bit worried about the Polish who can't really see what she's doing and is used to the old-style feeder. We'll give her head feathers a trim and see what happens. Rats appear to have moved on.... result! Avril - Bath

Not pretty but works well Lots of sharp edges so not nice to handle but it is working well. At first there was lots of spilt pellets but once the pellet level dropped in the trough at the front this has not been a problem. Works for both our hens and ducks. Helen - Abingdon

10kg treadle feeder These went together easily, it was not clear from the instructions however and there was no picture about how the waste grill should be fitted, so a certain amount of guess work was needed. These are a gift so I hope they work ok -

This is really good kit but I cannot seem to get my hens used to the clunking noise made when they stand on the treadle. The build quality is excellent but these daft hens don't seem to understand the principle of how to get this thing to work without jumping out of their feathers Carl - Ceredigion

good product The chickens took about a week to become brave enough to use the feeder. A stone to keep it open, plus a trail of feed encouraged them to do so. The instructions weren't great, and there are some rough edges but it will save money due to lack of wastage and keeps the rats out so it's great. Linda - North West

Good Despite needing an engineering degree LOL to put it together it is very good once the birds get used to it.The noise of shutter still makes them jump and to put on the anti waste grill which is vital is again difficult. -

Disappointed Poor instructions. Chain not as shown. Stiff metal stick instead which needs brute force to assemble. Also no indication that holes have to be drilled for the Anti Waste Grill. I don't have a drill. Unhelpful when I telephoned. Catherine - Suffolk

great feeder, instructions were fine, wedged open flap for 3 days so hens new where food was, then put a small weight on foot plate so flap was open a bit, as the noise when flap opened and closed scared them, they got used to it after one week, so then removed the weight and hens are ok now s nixon - crewe
